Lately one of the things I've been thinking about is truly loving others. What does showing God's love mean? I usually think of people in my life who I've met who genuinely have shown me love. You know those people who are sincere when they ask how you are doing or never bring you down. They always are friendly and are willing to make sacrifices for you. You can't help but smile when you seem them coming your way and it's usually hard not to point or yell as they make their way over. I want to be more like those people.
I've messed up with this and I'm sure everyone has. The second greatest commandment in the bible is to "love your neighbor as yourself." I find it very easy to read this and say that this is an easy task to do but in reality it isn't. Every time I go running I praise God for the body he has given me. I love who I am. I've got muscles that will cause solar eclipses if flexed and hair as silky as a panther. What more could I ask for? I love who I am but I definitely don't love some people as much as I do myself.
People who are mean, manipulative or condescending are a few types of people that I struggle with loving. My escape route thought is that they are wrong and I have every right to not love them. It's a pretty lousy excuse for not showing some love. Loving others is tough, it takes work but I think it's one of the best ways to share the gospel. Not always the easiest way but one of the best.
